At Wichita Adaptive Sports, we believe in the power of track and field to transform lives and showcase the incredible abilities of para-athletes. Our comprehensive program offers opportunities for individuals of all ages and skill levels who meet Paralympic qualifications, providing a supportive environment for growth, competition, and personal achievement.
World-Class Coaching
Our track and field program is led by an exceptional team of coaches with extensive experience in para sports:
Liz Willis: A Paralympian herself, Liz brings unparalleled expertise and inspiration to our athletes.
Leanne Funk: Specializes in racing chair techniques, helping our athletes maximize their speed and efficiency.
Megan Sayre: Focuses on field events, ensuring our athletes excel in a wide range of disciplines.
Kasey Nickel: A UTA adaptive athlete who joins us in the summer, offering peer support and guidance.
Inclusive Training Environment
We welcome local Middle and High School coaches to join our practices, providing them with valuable insights on modifying and adapting training for wheelchair athletes. This collaborative approach helps foster inclusivity in school sports programs and expands opportunities for para-athletes across our community.
Practice Schedule and Locations
Our track and field practices are held:
When: Sunday afternoons, May through July
Time: 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: Andover Central Middle School track
Competitive Opportunities
Wichita Adaptive Sports is committed to providing our athletes with opportunities to showcase their skills and compete at various levels:
We train for two local meets hosted in June.
Qualifying athletes have the chance to compete at the Move United Nationals in Grand Rapids, Michigan in July.
Financial Support
We understand that travel expenses can be a barrier to participation in competitive events. That's why Wichita Adaptive Sports offers scholarships to track team members, covering travel expenses for team-sponsored events across the United States. This support ensures that our athletes can focus on their performance without financial worries.
Join Our Track and Field Family
Whether you're an experienced para-athlete or just beginning your journey in track and field, we have a place for you. Our program is designed to accommodate individuals with physical disabilities who meet Paralympic qualifications, providing a supportive and challenging environment for all.
